ACD allergic contact dermatitis, AD atopic dermatitis, A&ICD allergic and irritant contact dermatitis, AHE allergic hand eczema, B-IPQ Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire, CD contact dermatitis, ECD endogenous contact dermatitis, HE hand eczema, ICD irritant/irritative contact dermatitis, IHE irritant/irritative hand eczema, I&ATCD irritant/irritative and atopic contact dermatitis, NES National Eczema Society, NOSQ-2002 Nordic Occupational Skin Questionnaire, OD occupational dermatitis, IPQ-R revised Illness Perception Questionnaire
  2. aBenyamini et al. [51] report further data on a fourth (control) group (n = 82), which covers other diseases, e.g., asteatotic eczema, vesicular, hand eczema, granuloma annulare, seborrheic dermatitis, rosacea, lichen sclerosus et atrophicus, and psoriasis. The results reported in this review refer exclusively to the three groups listed in Table 1. All values of the control group were excluded from the following analyses and thus, a total sample size of n = 221 is stated in Table 2
  3. bThe diagnoses of the study participants are not described in detail in the publication of Mollerup et al. [49]. After correspondence with the first author of the paper, diagnoses could be derived from another source [56]
